Chenin Blanc.

Defined by beeswax and lanolin phenolic texture, quince, and chamomile. Piercing acidity is constant — residual sugar ranges from bone dry (Savennières) to luscious sweet (Vouvray Moelleux) within the same appellation.

Climate Cool continental Loire. Tuffeau limestone soils. Vintage variation drives sweetness level.

Style Ranges from bone dry to sweet. MLF uncommon. High acid always present.

Savennières

Climate Cool continental. Schist and volcanic soils on south-facing Loire slopes.

Style Always bone dry. No MLF. High acid, austere in youth. Significant aging potential.

Montlouis-sur-Loire

Climate Cool continental. Tuffeau soils opposite bank from Vouvray. Slightly lighter expression.

Style Sec to demi-sec common. High acid. Similar to Vouvray but typically less extract and weight.
